Dr. Engin Karahan (Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Faculty of Educational Sciences) spoke about how important it is to make connections between STEM knowledge and skills in order to tackle environmental issues. He pointed out that the scientific literacy is one of the skills that is important to develop and gave examples from all over the world to visualize the problems related to pollution and to understand the importance of science, engineering and technologies in the process of creating projects and finding solutions to those problems.
In the afternoon Bulgarian and Turkish students and teachers will visit Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education and in the evening participants will enjoy Turkish Traditional Dinner.
Day 2
In the morning Turkish and Bulgarian students had the outdoor STEM activity where they did a research in the local area in order to detect the environmental problems in Adalar, but in the afternoon session Dr. Engin Karahan (Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Faculty of Educational Sciences) taught students how to debate, how to support the opinion, how to provide the best arguments and how to create counterarguments.
After theoretical insight into argumentation students were divided into 4 groups (manufacturers, engineers, scientists, and environmentalists) to discuss the problems of water pollution from different perspectives and to find the best solutions taking into account different point of views. After working in groups the findings were presented to all project participants.
It was so impressive how many creative and STEM based ideas students proposed! We are really proud of you!!!
Day 3
In the morning students had a Field Trip and Data Collection Activity. They had a trip to the river where they made observations of pollution and recorded interviews with local inhabitants. They collected visual materials, created posters of their findings in Kanlı Kavak Park Area and presented them to all project participants.
In the afternoon session students were divided into groups and worked on the development of a River Cleaning Tool applying their STEM skills and knowledge. When the models were created students presented them to other participants who in turn asked questions and gave some advice on how to improve the object.
All groups presented amazing ideas and wonderful projects that will probably become reality one day. We believe that new generation can rescue our planet!!!
Day 4

Students created amazing videos which focused on the river pollution problem and which gave the message to society to change its attitude towards environmental problems. Through this activity students developed not only their digital literacy, but also creativity, designing, planning, communication and language skills. It's amazing how creative our students are!!!
