Austrumlatvijas Tehnoloģiju vidusskola / Eastern Latvia Technology High School

Austrumlatvijas Tehnoloģiju vidusskola / Eastern Latvia Technology High School (Acronym: ATV) is a general education high school, which was established in the city called Rezekne, which is located in the Eastern part of Latvia. The school was established in 2015. Its founder is Rezekne Academy of Technologies, which is one of the leading higher education institutions of Latvia.

Both school and its programme have been accredited for 6 years – till 2021.

Eastern Latvia Technology High shool is a unique establishement because, firstly, it is one of only two secondary schools of Latvia, which has been established by higher education institution. Secondly, it has a small number of students. There are only 94  16-19 years old adolescents, who are selected for studies in this school according to the definite criteria. The main criteria for admission is the total average mark in all subjects, which should not be lower that 7 (in 10-point system) and the average mark in Mathematics should not be lower than 6. And thirdly, the school implements STEM (science, technologies, engineering and mathematics) program and prepares students for studies in higher education institutions in the field of engineering and other sciences.

ATV students study general-education subjects, but the emphasis is put on STEM subjects, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Since ATV founder is Academy, our students regularly do practical work in the laboratories of Academy’s Engineering faculty, which is one of the most modern and best-equipped engineering faculties in Latvia. Besides STEM subjects students learn languages (Native language – Latvian, English – as the first foreign language, Russian or German – as the second foreign language), Technical graphic, Geography, Information Technologies, Economics, History, Visual arts, Programming, Culture science and Sports. 10th and 11th graders work on scientific research papers, which are presented and defended locally, regionally and at national level. These studies are mostly done in STEM subjects and are supervised by subject teachers and Academy lecturers.

In ATV there are 13 teachers, including headmaster, who implement STEM programme.

The advantage of a small school like ATV is that every student is actively engaged not only in the learning process, but also in extra-curricular activities. Every student is given an opportunity to develop, to improve his/her skills and abilities and to show his/her talents.

In order to preserve our national identity the school has also formed its own folk dance group and an ensemble.
The school has its own Students’ parliament and School Board, which make decisions and give their contribution to school life.

The goal of Eastern Latvia Secondary School of Technologies is to provide a qualitative and up-to date education, to prepare students for studies in higher education establishment and to bring up socially responsible, tolerant and patriotic etc
